The Initiative: Intent: The intent of the Landscapes from Manidoo Abi is to capture, pictorially, the timeless beauty of the land and waterways on the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg and share these stunning colour photograph art images with the rest of the world, and to promote a 4.3 million hectre UNESCO World Heritage Site proposed on the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg as a "an outstanding example of the Canadian Boreal Shield both geographically and culturally." Components of the Initiative: There are three distinct components that fulfill the stated intent of this initiative. First Component: First, is the production of a 120-page hardcover limited edition coffee table pictorial book (only 500 copies being printed) of high quality colour landscape photographs taken in accessible and inaccessible areas on the Eastside of Lake Winnipeg. 20-pages of text will accompany the photographs in the limited edition coffee table book that will briefly highlight the historical, geographical and cultural importance of the region. This will be the first time that this region of Manitoba will be showcased in a coffee table book. Second Component: Secondly, these timeless landscape images will be used to create an interactive website that promotes this area to the rest of the world. The website will incorporate an interactive map of the region that will allow visitors to click on a series of points on the map and view the photographs taken from the region. The website will also feature an online photo gallery and a downloadable screensaver function. In addition to these interactive features, the website will also promote the tourism services available in the region and provide links to maps of various parks and rivers in the region that may be of interest to visitors of the website. Third Component: And finally, there will be a Gala Exhibit Event to be held in Winnipeg to showcase the best of the images from the initiative. The Gala Exhibit Event is tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2008 at Warehouse Artworks and will be open to the public. An advance special one night showing, prior to the Gala Exhibit Event, will afford sponsors of this initiative an opportunity to choose images they will receive as part of their sponsorship contribution to this initiative. |
